Culp Inc.
Culp Inc. is a leading American textile manufacturer specializing in upholstery fabrics and mattress fabrics, headquartered in High Point, North Carolina — the furniture capital of the United States. Founded in 1972 by Robert G. Culp, Jr. and his son Robert G. Culp III, the company started its journey as R.G. Culp & Associates, a modest fabric converter supplying upholstery materials to the furniture industry.
From its founding, Culp demonstrated a keen understanding of the home furnishings market. In 1976, the company established its mattress fabric division, initially operating as Culp Ticking and later growing into Culp Home Fashions (CHF). The company went public in 1983, first listing on NASDAQ before moving to the New York Stock Exchange in 1996 under the ticker symbol CULP. This transition marked Culp’s emergence as a publicly recognized force in the textile sector.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Culp steadily expanded its manufacturing footprint by acquiring additional plant capacity and integrating more of its production in-house. It established weaving and printing operations in North Carolina and later extended its reach into Canada with the acquisition of Rayonese Textiles. As demand for upholstery shifted toward Asia in the 2000s, Culp made bold moves to establish manufacturing, sourcing, and distribution hubs in China, ensuring it remained competitive in global markets.
Today, Culp operates manufacturing and distribution facilities across the United States, Canada, Haiti, and Asia. Its product lines include a broad assortment of woven and knitted mattress fabrics, upholstery fabrics, and bedding accessories sold under brands including Comfort Supply Co. The company serves leading home furnishing retailers, furniture manufacturers, and bedding producers across the globe, cementing its position as a globally respected name in the textile and home furnishings supply chain.
