Albany International Corp.
Albany International Corp. is a global advanced textiles and materials processing company with origins dating back to March 8, 1895, when three Albany businessmen — Parker Corning, Selden Marvin, and James Cox — founded the Albany Felt Company in Albany, New York. Established to serve the growing paper mill industry concentrated along the Hudson River, the company manufactured specialized wool-based press felts, known today as paper machine clothing, that were essential to papermaking operations of the era. Over more than 130 years, Albany International has evolved from a regional felt manufacturer into one of the most technically sophisticated engineered textiles and composites companies in the world.
Headquartered in Rochester, New Hampshire, where it relocated its corporate offices in 2011, Albany International operates through two primary business segments: Machine Clothing and Albany Engineered Composites. The Machine Clothing segment, headquartered in Neuhausen, Switzerland, is the world’s leading producer of custom-designed, consumable, engineered fabrics and process belts essential for each section of the paper machine, manufacturing every grade of paper from lightweight tissue to heavyweight containerboard. Albany International holds an approximate 30 percent global market share in paper machine clothing, representing a commanding lead over the next largest competitor.
The Albany Engineered Composites segment develops advanced composite materials and structural components for the aerospace and defense sectors, including components for the CFM LEAP engine in partnership with Safran. This dual-business model distinguishes Albany International as a company with both deep textile heritage and modern aerospace capabilities.
Albany International trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AIN and is included in the S&P 600 and Russell 2000 stock indices. The company operates 22 manufacturing plants across 10 countries and employs approximately 4,400 people worldwide. In 2020, annual revenues reached approximately $900 million.
For paper mills, tissue manufacturers, and aerospace supply chains seeking precision-engineered textile solutions and composite structures, Albany International Corp. represents a world-class partner with more than a century of specialized materials science expertise.
